A BAYING mob of 30 children attack two cops after school, in a picture to shock even lawless Britain.
The snarling schoolkids rounded on them “like a pack of feral wolves”, a stunned witness said yesterday.
Phone footage obtained by The Sun shows the male officer being wrestled to the ground and his head repeatedly “stomped”.
He was left dazed and staggering as the youths — some in school uniform and looking no older than 12 — stepped back before circling the officers again.
A man believed to be a teacher intervened and there was a tense stand off before police reinforcements arrived and the male victim could be taken to hospital with severe bruising.
One resident in New Cross, South East London, said he had seen teens arguing and added: “There was a fight, then the police turned up and were attacked by the kids. They were like a pack of feral wolves.”
Ken Marsh, chairman of the rank-and-file Metropolitan Police Federation branch, said: “This film is truly shocking. These images highlight the dangers that police officers face day in and day out while patrolling the streets.”
He said the officers would have been worried that if the drew their batons “they could have been accused of going over the top with school children and subjected to complaints”.
Trouble flared shortly after 4pm as pupils finished school. One girl from Hatcham College and another from Deptford Green School had arranged to fight and word spread on social medial.
One member of the crowd was said to have been spotted with a knife.
The video shows the male officer holding down a boy over a car bonnet. A girl then screams: “That’s racist.”
The cop is charged to the ground while his female colleague tries to ward off the onslaught in vain.
Both officers are pinned aginst a wall, still holding their suspect, as the teacher puts himself between them and the mob.
A witness said: “Two girls from different schools were fighting and word soon spread on WhatsApp.
“Soon there were 20 or 30 of them and things got tense.
“The officers were dealing with one boy and suddenly all hell broke loose.
“A few of the school kids jumped all over the policeman and gave him a kicking on the floor.
“They lashed out at the female officer and then a guy in a suit stepped in to calm things down. He held them off until several police cars turned up with sirens and flashing lights.
“Apparently the kids thought the boy was being choked. Police said there was a knife but I never saw one.”
Maisie Summers, 19, saw the flare-up as she headed to her boyfriend’s house. She said: “Most of the people involved had their hoods up and looked intimidating. They were shouting.
“Then suddenly they were all crowding around this officer on the ground. It’s shocking that the police got beaten up like this for doing their jobs.”
Arrest... back-up arrives on scene, meaning the suspect can finally be led away
Another local said: “Kids have a go at each other after school every week around here.”
A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and was bailed.
Police appealed for information about the November 9 attack.
Both schools declined to comment. A council spokeswoman said: “The Council and schools are assisting the police.”
Mr Marsh said that 4,000 officers were assaulted in London alone in the last year — an average of 11 a day.
Earlier this week an undercover cop had surgery to remove half his stomach after being stabbed three times by a gang of four youths, included a girl, in Bow, East London.
A 17-year-old youth was arrested and bailed.
