Teenage girl dies after tractor collides with ditch on Irish road as gardai appeal for witnesses
A TEENAGE girl has died after a tractor collided with a ditch last night.
The collision happened on the L2514 at Loughduff, Co. Cavan at around 11pm.
The girl, aged in her late teens, was a passenger in the tractor.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A teenage boy, who was driving the tractor, was uninjured in the crash.
The road has been closed for a forensic examination of the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact gardai.
A spokesperson said: "Gardai in Cavan are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision involving a tractor that occurred on the L2514 at Loughduff, Co. Cavan on Tuesday 30th May, 2023 at approximately 11p.m.
"A female juvenile (aged in her late teens) was fatally injured when the tractor collided with a ditch.
"Her body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Cavan General Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.

"A male juvenile (aged in his late teens) who was driving the tractor was uninjured.
"The road is currently closed pending an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10.45pm and 11.15pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardai.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cavan Garda station on 049 436 8800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
LOUTH TRAGEDY
In Louth, an elderly man, aged in his 80s, died after he was struck by a car yesterday.
Emergency services were called to in Annagassan in Lynns at around 7.55pm.
His body was taken from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post mortem will take place.
The driver of the car was uninjured.
A spokesman said: "The scene of the collision on the R166 (Castlebellingham to Annagassan Road) is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
