A HUMAN rights group has accused the Government of failing to intervene over a British alleged rape victim arrested in Dubai.
A royal visit to a Middle East women's refuge by the Duchess of Cornwall last month was savaged - because officials arranged it knowing Zara-Jayne Moisey had been locked up for telling cops about an alleged sex attack.
Global non-profit team Human Rights Watch hit out as the 25-year-old last night faced an agonising wait to get home.
A spokesman for the US-founded group said: "The UK authorities should be doing everything they can to protect their nationals, but instead they urged Zara to stay quiet and accept her fate.
"It was left to the British media, notably The Sun, to publicise this case."
United Arab Emirates officials have refused to return Zara-Jayne's passport, meaning she is still stranded overseas awaiting an emotional reunion with her friends and family.
The Sun has revealed how she was thrown in prison for five days after claiming two British tourists raped her on October 23.
Yesterday the case was dropped, with Dubai prosecutors suggesting the hotel room sex was consensual.
But despite releasing an official statement, Dubai officials failed to formally close the case and allow the computer software specialist to fly home.
Human Rights Watch told The Sun: "It beggars belief that the British government allowed the Duchess of Cornwall to showcase the UAE’s record on violence against women during a state visit there earlier this month, while fully aware that one of their nationals was facing prosecution for reporting a sexual assault.
"This is part of a pattern whereby UAE authorities are punishing women for reporting rape, doubling the trauma of rape victims, and deterring other women from reporting rape.
"Human rights protect the rights of everyone involved in a case like this by ensuring that justice is done and proper investigations are a part of that.
"But the UAE is more concerned about its image and has simply washed its hands of this affair."
