Tragedy as teenager is ‘killed in assault’ in Crookes – with two men arrested on suspicion of murder

A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been "killed in an assault" with two men arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cops and emergency services scrambled to the Crookes area of Sheffield at around 7pm yesterday after reports of a stabbing.

The teenager was rushed to hospital but he sadly passed away from his injuries shortly after.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed two men, aged 29 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cops cordoned off a number of roads as they began a murder investigation.

Specialist forensic officers were also pictured scouring the area for evidence after the tragic death.

Images showed a number of police cars and two ambulances attending the scene.

The boy's family have been informed of his death and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Kemp, leading the investigation, said: "We know how concerning this incident will be for the local community and residents across the city and I want to reassure the public that our inquiries into the incident continue at pace.

"Our officers are working around the clock to piece together the circumstances of what happened last night, which sadly led to a teenager losing his life.

"There continues to be a high number of uniformed officers in the area today carrying out inquiries, and there are also a number of road closures and police cordons in place.

"If you see our officers around the area then please don't hesitate to stop and speak to them, we're here to help and support you."

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police earlier said: "A murder investigation has been launched after a teenager died following an assault in Crookes, Sheffield this evening (Thursday May 25).

"There are a high number of uniformed officers in the area carrying out initial inquiries, and a number of road closures and cordons remain in place.

"Two men are in custody after being detained on suspicion of murder."
