Holiday warning as cops in island hotspot slap tourists with tough list of rules at the airport to curb bad behaviour

TOURISTS in Bali have been warned they could be slapped with a tough list of rules at the airport to curb bad behaviour on the island.

A new book of strict rules will include instructions on how to dress and act appropriately at the holiday hotspot.

Western visitors will be handed the document after Anggiat Napitupulu, Head of Bali's Regional Office of Ministry of Law and Human Rights, announced the plans for a "good tourist guidebook".

The card of "do's and don'ts" will be handed over at immigration when tourists land at the airport before they begin their visit.

"It needs to be known that not all foreigners know what things are allowed and not allowed in Bali," Napitupulu told The Bali Sun.

"We hope to accelerate the completion of the guidebook or guidance book."

This comes after multiple visitors to the popular holiday destination were blasted for breaking rules - some of which tourists were unaware existed.

Last year a Russian yoga influencer sparked outrage after posing completely naked for a photo under a sacred tree in Bali.

The Instagram star, Alina, shared pictures of her pushing up her boobs against the tree in Indonesia and faced up to six years in jail and a £55,000 fine for the act.

A Balinese entrepreneur said the Russian beauty had posed naked at the 700-year-old weeping paperbark tree, known as kayu putih, and that she could have been jailed under local pornography laws.

Another Russian tourist was also slammed by a Balinese politician after he took a semi-nude photo on a mountain.

Yuri had posted the snap online which showed him naked from the waist down.

He'd taken a naked photo on Mount Agung, a volcano which is also the highest point in Bali.

While this may seem like a joke, the Hindu Balinese believe that it represents the god Shiva and is seen as disrespectful.

Tourists who want to hike or visit the mountain are required to obtain a permit.

The photo was quickly removed by Yuri who posted an apology video on Instragram in its place.

And in 2019, Indonesia's disaster agency hit out at a pair of reckless backpackers who dangled their legs over the edge of an active volcano which erupted just days before.

The two foolhardy tourists had ignored a well-signed three-mile exclusion zone to climb Bali's notorious Mount Agung.

National Disaster Mitigation Agency boss Sutopo Purwo Nugroho took to Twitter to share a video of the pair sitting on the very edge of the deadly crater.

“Even though any activities are already forbidden in a radius of four kilometers from the crater, there are still tourists and tour guides that are reckless and are going to the crater," he wrote.

The Bali government and Tourism Office have discussed the do's and don'ts card several times but the plan is now in it's final process of finalisation, .

The announcement comes after Bali Tourism Board Chairman Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana announced plans for an educational billboard campaign.

Dozens of large billboards are to be installed at a number of points in Bali, and will be made in English, Russian and Hindi.

Alongside this, the new cards will also highlight the island's road rules which may be particularly useful to tourists who enjoy whizzing around the island on mopeds.

But just last month, the holiday hotspot introduced strict new rules for Brits who opt for mopeds to get around.

Governor Wayan Koster said: "[Tourists] are disorderly and they misbehave.

"You [should] not roam about the island using motorbikes, without wearing shirts or clothes, no helmet, and even without a licence."

More than 170 tourists broke the rules from late February to early March, according to local police reports.

The ban is expected to be enforced later this year, but how and when are yet to be confirmed.
