People-smuggler suspect Jamal Owda booted from UK after judge rules he is to be extradited to Greece for ‘part in 23-strong ring’

Palestinian 27-year-old is accused of getting more than 95 people to Macedonia for £1,500 a person after arrest in 2015

A SUSPECTED people-smuggler will be extradited to Greece from the UK, a judge has ruled.

Palestinian Jamal Owda, 27, is alleged to have been part of a 23-strong ring that trafficked people out of the Mediterranean country.

He is also accused of getting more than 95 people to Macedonia for £1,500 a person.

District Judge John Zani granted the Greek extradition request at Westminster magistrates’ court in central London, saying it was “necessary and proportionate”.

Owda came to the UK in 2014 and applied for asylum. He was arrested in 2015 following an European Arrest Warrant.

He has a week to appeal, and will be sent to Greece within ten days if he does not challenge the decision.
