Millionaire Halfords boss to spend two weeks in Norwegian jail for drunkenly driving golf buggy at 6mph while on holiday

Jonny Mason was also handed a £12,000 fine and a two year driving ban for his reckless motoring

The millionaire director of Halfords fined £12,000 for drink-driving at 6mph in a golf buggy will return to Norway to serve a 14 day prison sentence, it was confirmed last night.

The Sun yesterday revealed Jonny Mason, 52, finance boss of the high street car and bike parts chain, had been nabbed by police over the limit in a private Scandanavian golf resort.

Lower Telemark County Court judge Gustav Sodve issued a wages-linked 125,000 krona fine, the two week jail term and a two year driving ban from the country's roads on Monday.

However, when the written judgement was issued after a court case last week, Mason was at the Halfords HQ in Redditch, Worcs - so was not physically put behind bars.

A spokesman for the store group said last night: "The judgement has only just come through and Jonny is awaiting exact clarification.

"He did not contest the charge and intends to meet all his responsibilities."

It is understood Mason, who lives in a £2 million Thames riverside flat in Barnes, south west London, is hoping he will be allowed to serve his time under curfew at a given address, which can be the equivalent of a jail term in Norway.

His current partner is Norwegian Mette Krogsud, 48, a managing director with whom he lived north of Oslo until he joined Halfords 13 months ago.

They sail a boat called Aurora at the sprawling Kragero resort, where Mason was nabbed in the buggy in July driving on a dirt track from a beach bar just before an 11pm golf cart curfew.

Special laws in Norway - where there is a virtual zero tolerance to drink driving - grant police powers to nick motorists even on private land.
