He was renowned for his catchphrase "I can't believe I was that fat!" after shedding five stone.

The Sun Online can confirm Bethell, of Chestfield, Kent, has since passed away.

As well as his TV work, Bethell also worked on various radio stations including BBC Radio Kent and KMFM and appeared on After They Were Famous in 2002.

But his showbiz life crumbled in 2012 when he was jailed for four years for child sex offences.

Bethell lured the victim, who was aged under 13, to his home in Whitstable, Kent, with the promise he could help her get into the industry.

Once there, the paedo showered her with gifts and told her he could make her a popstar.

The DJ also plied her with sweets and fizzy drinks to keep her quiet as he abused her.

Bethell was found guilty of assaulting the girl between 2004 and 2008 and three charges of taking indecent images of a child.

He admitted eight other offences, including seven of taking indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images downloaded from the internet.

Sentencing Bethell, Judge Adele Williams said: "You did this, in my judgement, for your own sexual purposes."
