Geordie lasses are second to girls from another UK region when it comes to being drunk & disorderly, police data shows

LANCASHIRE lasses have overtaken Geordie girls as most likely to be fined for being drunk and disorderly.

For 11 years, the dubious accolade went to Northumbria — where cops patrol the streets of Newcastle.

But in 2021 — the most recent full year of data available — the crown was carried off by young women in Lancashire, which covers Blackpool and Preston.

Known for its pubs and clubs, Blackpool often tops league tables for alcohol-related health problems.

In total, yobettes aged under 30 were hit with 465 on-the-spot fines for being drunk and disorderly — of which 105 were written out by Lancashire police.

The total is much higher than bigger forces such as London’s Met, which issued only 32 fines and Greater Manchester which doled out 19.

Cops in Merseyside, Essex and West Yorkshire did not issue any, figures for England and Wales show.

Health professionals have voiced fears over surging drinking levels in women and booze marketing becoming more “female friendly”.

Nuno Albuquerque, of UK Addiction Treatment Group, said: “Young women who drink excessively will feel the effects of alcohol quickly, and this could enhance participation in risky or anti- social behaviour which could put them in some danger.”

David Spencer, from the Centre for Crime Prevention, said: “Lancashire police deserve huge credit for dealing with the issue of drunk and disorderly women (and men) as thoroughly as they do.”
