COPS have launched an investigation after shocked firefighters found a body while responding to a shed fire.

The horror find was discovered after a deadly fire broke out in Bampton, Devon yesterday.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene near The Exeter Inn in Tiverton Road last night.

It has been reported that the fire started at around 8pm and the cops were called around 20 minutes later - where firefighters then discovered a body.

The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed, including details of their age or gender.

Following the fatal incident, a road closure was put in place between Cove Hill in Cove and the B3227 at Black Cat junction in Bampton.

The closure remains in place for today as baffled cops continue their probe into the mystery death.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called by the fire brigade to attend a report of a shed fire in Bampton. Sadly, a body of a person has been discovered at the scene,"

"Police are on scene investigating at this time. We believe there is no threat to the wider public," they added.

Pip Orne, the pub landlord at Exeter Inn said that officers were still patrolling the scene, according to .

Pip confirmed: "No one is allowed down there. All we know is it happened around 9pm yesterday and apparently, someone has been found down there."
