Donald Trump hosts Japanese PM at a ‘penthouse pow wow’ with loyal daughter Ivanka by his side

The world leaders swap golf equipment after their successful top level meeting

DONALD Trump had his first meeting with a foreign dignitary when he held a 'penthouse pow wow' with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe - and daughter Ivanka tagged along too.

The 90-minute meeting  was held in an opulent private apartment in luxurious Trump Tower, in the heart of Manhattan, New York.

Afterwards the Japanese Premier said he was sure the newly-elected politician was someone he could work with.

"As an outcome of today's discussions, I am convinced Mr Trump is a leader in whom I can have great confidence,"said Abe.

He described the atmosphere of the meeting as 'warm' but both sides refused to disclose exactly what was discussed.

What role Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner played at the meeting is also unknown.

Abe said the chat had renewed his conviction the two men will soon establish a relationship of trust.

He told media: "Without confidence between the two nations, our alliance would never function in the future."

He declined to say  what was discussed, but said he 'conveyed' his 'basic views' and promised a more in-depth meeting in the future.

Yesterday's meeting came after Trump suggested he might pull thousands of US troops out of the region - where they help allies like South Korea and Japan counterbalance China.

He also said he firmly believed that Japan will need to invest in its own nukes in the future.

After the meeting, Abe gave Trump a golf driver and received golf-wear in return.
