MICHAELLA McCollum made headlines when she and her friend were arrested in 2013 for smuggling 12kg of cocaine into Peru.

Who is Michaella McCollum?
Michaella is one of the famous "Peru Two", who were two women arrested in Peru on suspicion of smuggling cocaine.
The two initially claimed that they had been coerced by a gang but pleaded guilty eventually.
They had been flying from Ibiza to Peru when they were in their bag.
Michaella and her friend, Melissa Reid, were sentenced to six years and eight month imprisonment.

In 2016, they were both released back to Europe.
Michaella returned to Ireland and Melissa headed back home to Scotland.

Ten years after her arrest, Michaella graduated from the University of Ulster with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Business Management, Marketing and Related Support Services.

She gave birth to her twin sons, Raphael and Rio, in 2018 just two years after returning from Peru.
Raphael got his name from Michaella having a dream about Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.
Michaella named her other son Rio, because she thought it went well with Raphael.
She opened up on Instagram about how she feels that she is a single mother, since the boys rarely see their father.
Talking about coping as a single mother, McCollum said: "Obviously it is not easy, and lonely at times, but I am totally capable and happy doing it alone."
She has confirmed that the name of the twins' father was left off their birth certificates.
Who is Michaella McCollum's mother?
Michaella's mother is called Norah, and she has been photographed on many occasions with her daughter and grandchildren.
Michaella described informing her mother of her incarceration as "the worst phone call ever".
The family launched a Facebook campaign in August 2013 after she had not made contact with them for over ten days.
Norah and her other daughter Samantha flew to Peru to visit Michaella at the Virgen de Fatima jailhouse near Lima, Peru's capital.
