Passenger fighting for life after car smashes into tree during high speed police chase

A PASSENGER is fighting for his life while the driver is on the run after a car crashed during a police chase.
The passenger, named locally as Declan Blackburne, is now in a critical condition after the black Honda Civic he was in smashed into a tree and telegraph pole in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The car had been driving on Councillor Lane in Cheadle, Manchester, about 12.40am when the crash occurred - reportedly wiping out a lamp post, two electricity boxes and a telephone pole.
The driver ran from the scene with emergency services rescuing trapped Declan,
Declan's friends have now wished the young man a speedy recovery, with one friend, Bandon Jones writing: "Hope Declan Blackburne pulls through! Stay strong pal!"
Others wrote: "You’re strong enough to get through Declan Blackburne fingers crossed mate X.”
The police helicopter was called in to help with the search for the driver who fled the scene.
Police also brought out dogs to search for the driver.

The NPAS tweeted about the incident, writing: "Search for potentially injured person following vehicle collision. Area cleared."
Investigators have since arrived at the scene, taking photographs of the destruction.
A large part of Councillor Lane remains closed off after the crash.
