A THIRD of families cannot afford to turn on the heating when their home is cold.
They are forced to keep it off despite knowing that it may affect their kids’ health, a report reveals today.
It will pile fresh pressure on the Big Six energy firms after The Sun revealed that they make as much as £272 profit per customer.
The report by will show that almost four million working households (32 per cent) are struggling to pay energy bills.
And that is ahead of expected price increases by the Big Six.
Half of all households say they plan to cut energy use to afford bills — with 29 per cent saying the heating will not go on at all.
And 13 per cent have gone without essentials to pay energy bills.
Will Hodson, of consumer group The Big Deal, said: “The Big Six are beyond a disgrace.
