Four people rushed to hospital after 1,000 people party at illegal rave on industrial site

FOUR people have been rushed to hospital after an illegal rave that attracted over 1,000 revellers to a Welsh industrial estate.

The gathering in Margram, Wales, saw people travel for up to 200 miles to attend and the police sweeping in to break it up.

South Wales Police confirmed that three people had been hospitalised and later confirmed that a fourth had joined them.

All are understood to be suffering from non-serious injuries.

The force also issued an order to disperse the crowd in the early hours of Easter Sunday morning, but hundreds remained on the site the next day.

The road leading to the industrial estate was closed off while the "unlicensed music event" was broken up, according to .

Witnesses described hundreds of cars being abandoned along the road as the party went on through the night.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Travis said: "Initial reports indicated that in excess of 1000 people and 70 vehicles are in attendance.

"A number of officers have been deployed. We are urging people to leave the site safely and stay away from the event.";

In a later statement he added: "We are engaging with those present at the scene to ensure they make their way from the site safely whilst respecting local residents. 

"The event is now dissipating and those attending have been leaving throughout the afternoon.

"We have worked with partner agencies to ensure those who have needed help have been supported.

"It is disappointing that on one of the busiest days of the year that so many resources have been diverted from supporting local communities to manage an illegal event. I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support."

At 3.43am on Sunday, South Wales Police tweeted: "Police are aware of an illegal gathering at Kenfig Industrial Estate Margam. There is an order in place to direct persons to leave the area."
