Man, 34, arrested on suspicion of terror offences in Birmingham

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The 34-year-old man is now in custody of police, being questioned by the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

Police said they had arrested the man under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, on suspicions that he was "concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism".

He is now being questioned by West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at a police station in the West Midlands.

A police spokesperson said: "The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led; there was no threat to the public's safety.

"An address in Birmingham is subject of an ongoing search.

"The man was arrested under terrorism legislation, meaning officers have an initial 48 hours to question the suspect before charging, releasing or applying for a warrant of further detention."
