Inside McDonald’s once branded ‘WORST’ in UK with ‘cold burgers tasting like cardboard’ – it’s undergone a huge change
A MCDONALD’S, once dubbed the UK’s “worst” with “cold” burgers that “taste like cardboard” has undergone a major change.
The branch in Kingswinford, West Midlands has, in the past, been slammed by customers over poor service, bad food and “order mix-ups“.
However, an investigation by The Sun Online a year on from a review blasting the restaurant as the “worst in the UK” found it was all smiles from the satisfied customers inside.
The store’s management say they have turned it around and now claim it’s one of the fast food giant’s best branches, not just in the UK but worldwide.
One fierce critic from 2022 said of the branch: “Order from here and you can almost guarantee missing food items.
“I have rarely received a correct order.
“Food greasy and most orders cold. This is the rule here not the exception.”
But now, customers have spoken of how reliable the eatery is in terms of both food and service.
A-Level student Luke Powell, 17, who spoke to The Sun Online while on his lunch break from sixth form with his friends, said: “It was all good. We went in, ordered on the machine, collected the food really quickly and it was hot.
“We come here every Thursday for a treat. We wouldn’t keep coming back if the food was bad.”
Luke’s pal Esther Buckley, 17, added: “The cheese was nice and the staff are friendly. They are really busy but we haven’t been kept waiting. I’d say they were one of the best not one of the worst.”
Even those who found themselves in a McDonald’s for the first time were reasonably impressed.
Gwyn O’Growney, 89, had popped in with her son to use their facilities before going to a funeral.
She said she had never eaten at a McDonald’s but that the loos were in good order
Gwyn explained: “The toilets were clean, they had paper and at least one working sink. There were two cubicles that seemed to be sealed shut but I only needed one.”
A lot of the previous criticism was directed at the drive thru service, which is how the branch does much of its business since it is based on an A-road by an industrial estate.
Another teen, who has used the drive thru before said: “I’ve heard they get the orders mixed up. One week we came, they forgot to give us the coke we ordered but they corrected it straight away.”
Meanwhile, Brian James, 29, did mention that he had seen some slow service when picking up food in his van, but was quick to say that the staff were very apologetic and quick to correct the problem.
He added: “McDonald’s is my go-to. They don’t often let you down.”
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Our Kingswinford restaurant team work incredibly hard to ensure every customer who orders a McDonald’s has a positive experience and are always happy to help.
“The restaurant is committed to being a good neighbour and the team are proud to serve their local community.”
