I’m eight years old and love climbing I’ve scaled the equivalent of Mount Everest eight times already

YOUNG hiker Charlie Batham poses with pride — after scaling the equivalent height of Mount Everest eight times before he turns nine.

Intrepid Charlie has reached the summit of more than 200 different peaks after catching the climbing bug at five years old.

The adventurer has clambered more than 232,260ft alongside his dad Paul and mum Donna.

Charlie, eight, from Wakefield, West Yorks, said: “I love doing it to explore and ticking the peaks off.

“I also love seeing all the different animals and wildlife that we wouldn’t find at home.”

Paul, 54, joked that his son was “like a mountain goat”.

He added: “If there’s anything to climb, he will climb it.”

Charlie has scaled Britain’s three highest peaks — Scafell Pike in the Lake District, Snowdown in North Wales, and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

And he equalled his eighth “Everest” just over a week ago on Chrome Hill, in the Peak District.
