What a staggering global humiliation for President Macron to admit France is unsafe for King Charles
Flaming France
WHAT a staggering global humiliation for President Macron. His country, he admits, is too dangerous for our King to set foot.
A long-planned state visit, Charles’s first as monarch, is axed with two days’ notice.
Paris is in the grip of terrifying anarchy and knee-deep in rubbish.
Nearly 1,000 fires have been set in Bordeaux and the town hall torched.
Macron rightly concluded it wouldn’t sit well with the millions furiously thronging the streets for him to be seen hosting a banquet for British Royalty at the opulent Palace of Versailles.
Protesters even threatened to guillotine our King. Steady on, nos amis.

We don’t blame Macron for raising the pension age, even if only to 64.
His system’s going bust.
But could he not grasp the rage he would trigger, by forcing it through without a vote, in a population battered by soaring prices and already attacking him as ruling for the rich?
Britain has been plagued for months by picket lines and stoppages.

But nothing nearly on this scale.
The Remainer Left love to exaggerate our woes to attack the Tories and Brexit.
How oddly silent they are over this carnage in the heart of their beloved EU, brought about by its poster boy.
Imagine their hysteria if WE had to scrap a state visit for fear of igniting revolution.
Target yobs
NOTHING makes a town feel neglected by politicians more than its dilapidated streets becoming cesspits of crime.
So we welcome the crackdown Michael Gove will unveil next week.
Over the decades, though, we have heard dozens of Tory and Labour announcements targeting anti-social behaviour.
This one needs proper resources to back it up.
It needs more police patrols — and the will to enforce new punishments.
It also means courts handing down the stiffer sentences Britain demands.
Not, as one soft-hearted judge recently did with four motorway-blocking eco loons, letting them off in sympathy.
We wish Mr Gove luck.
We just hope our hapless, woke police and liberal justice system are onside with a Tory assault on yobs.
Grave error
THE scale of the HS2 fiasco blows the mind.
To make way for its shiny new £2.6billion Euston terminus in London, some 50,000 bodies had to be dug up from a graveyard and reburied elsewhere.
Archaeologists spent years painstakingly excavating the site.
Now the line won’t even reach Euston till about 2040, possibly ever.
All that cleared land will lie idle for a decade.

This project is a vast money-pit, its supposed benefit to Britain now more indefensible than ever.
They should bury the whole idea . . . never to be exhumed.
