Mystery as British woman is found dead on beach at popular Spanish holiday resort
A Civil Guard spokesman said 'there were no apparent signs of violence' on the victim's body
A BRITISH woman has been found dead on a beach in a popular Spanish holiday resort.
Lyn Davis, 56, was discovered on the shoreline at the beach in the town of Mojacar around 10am on Saturday.
A local enjoying a morning stroll called police after making the gruesome discovery.
It is unclear how she had died but a post-mortem is understood to have taken place - the results have not yet been made public.
She was staying at a beach-front guest house called Pension La Esperanza after leaving a campsite in nearby Tabernas around a week earlier.
She was discovered dead after failing to return to her accommodation on Friday night.
It is not known where in Britain she was from, although she is understood to have lived in London and the West Country.
She had been travelling alone around Spain for about two months.
A British acquaintance she met in a neighbouring province said: “She was cultured, educated and very thoughtful. It was a complete shock when I found out she’d died.
“I’ve been given no information other than that she was found on the beach. Her death is a mystery to me.”
The local Civil Guard confirmed the dead woman was British and said there were no apparent signs of violence on her body.
A court in the nearby town of Vera is now coordinating an investigation into how the woman met her death and will re-involve police if they receive any information pointing to foul play.
Mojacar, in the province of Almeria in south east Spain, was the home for years of Gordon Goody, regarded as one of the masterminds behind the Great Train Robbery of 1963.
He was given an exemplary sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment for his part in the robbery, but served less than half that.
His remains were cremated in the resort in January after he died aged 86.
Mojacar is popular with Brit expats and tourists.
Earlier this year council chiefs announced they were banning hen party and stag do revellers from walking around town with “obscene and rude” objects including giant penises and inflatable dolls.
