JAIL RACE WAR

Brit lags set up ‘defence groups’ to protect themselves from gangs of Muslim fanatics in jail

PRISON chiefs fear a race war could break out in British jails after inmates set up "defence groups" to protect themselves against Muslim convicts.

Governors have been handed an urgent security warning about a network called Death Before Honour.

The group, who call themselves DBD for short, claim they are at an increasing risk from Muslim inmates, the  reports.

The gang have recruited members from special Close Supervision Centres which were set up to contain the most dangerous convicts.

Governors have been warned that at least three convicted murderers have been linked to DBD.

A source said: "There have been top-security briefings warning of this organisation being set up and focusing on inmates in Close Supervision Units.

"So there is serious concern with so many hundreds, if not thousands, of followers of Islam in the prison system.

"At many of our prisons there is already huge tension between Muslim and non-Muslim prisoners.

"Clearly there is deep concern that this group could expand and the conflict could escalate out of all control."

Sources have claimed DBD is the second known anti-Islam organisation to have been set up in prison.

The Piranhas gang was formed after radicalised Muslim inmates allegedly tried to convert some prisoners and attacked others.

The Piranhas are mainly inmates from Liverpool and Manchester, a trial at Manchester Crown Court heard.

Gangland murderer Chris Ashton has been handing out postcards carrying a piranha image to Muslim-convert inmates at HMP Long Lartin in Worcester.

Vile gangland murderer Chris Ashton appears to be linked to the Piranhas gang

Ashton, 33, is alleged to have been moved to another prison after Muslim inmates threatened to harm him.

He was handed a life sentence with a 32-year minimum term in 2006 for killing 21-year-old Leon Small, whose burnt body was discovered on the Mersey foreshore.

He had been stabbed with a samurai sword and knife before being shot by Ashton in a row over gold chain.

A Ministry of Justice spokesman refused to discuss DBD or its members, but said: "Safety in prisons is fundamental to the proper functioning of our justice system.

"We do not tolerate violence or bullying in prisons and will always taken against any kind of discrimination.
