ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking footage shows the moment a baby falls from a third-floor escalator to his death after his grandmother slipped.

The tragedy happened yesterday at around 2.30pm in a Shanghai shopping mall in China, as the boy's mum was walking behind with her daughter.

When carrying the baby in her arms, she is seen losing her balance after stepping onto the escalator.

Tragically as she stumbles the boy drops over the side.

Mall staff called paramedics and the boy was rushed to hospital, where he sadly later died, reported

The incident occurred in the Wu Yue plaza department store in the Qingpu district of Shanghai.
