INCOMING President and world leader Donald Trump says he won’t take a penny of the £320,000 salary he is entitled to when he takes office.

The infamous businessman and reality television star, who won a surprise victory in the presidential election this week, told a rally he wouldn’t take a cent.

Speaking to supporters in New Hampshire during the campaign in September 2015, he said: “The first thing I'm going to do is tell you that if I'm elected president, I'm accepting no salary, okay?

“That's not a big deal for me.”

This week Forbes magazine estimated that Trump is worth around £2.9billion but he has previously said his personal fortune is greater than £10billion.

If he does decide to waive the £320,000 salary, Trump will become only the third President in American history to do so.

Herbert Hoover, who was elected in 1929 as a Republican, made a fortune in the mining industry before taking his seat in the Oval Office.

John F. Kennedy, who was infamously assassinated in 1963, came from a famously wealthy family before being elected as a Democrat in 1961.

In both cases they chose to donate their salaries to charity.

Although Trump hasn’t mentioned his promise regarding his salary since winning the election, he is expected to stick to his word and refuse the pay-packet.

The eye-watering salary is a lot more than the wage offered to the British Prime Minister, with Theresa May taking home £143,462 each year.

The Prime Minister is expected to meet with the President-elect in the near future and has already hinted at a possible trade deal – something a European politician called ‘delusional’.
