Now, 21 years after the attack, Glover has broken his silence and revealed he watched on as torture victim Collier had his teeth pulled out with pliers.

Glover, Conroy and his associates battered Collier with a 2x4 piece of wood and a gas canister, beating him about the legs while he screamed in agony.

But his terrifying ordeal was not over.

Collier was taken to a flat and subjected to horrific torture - though Glover insists he was not the man who carried out the attack and Conroy was not there.

He said: “We put him on a chair and someone took out a pair of pliers. He pulled his teeth out, tried to rip his nostrils out and clipped his ears.

“All the time it was happening Collier was screaming - it went on for at least 15 minutes. I then left and went to visit my dad in Durham Prison.”

Conroy and Glover were convicted of the 1995 torture - said to be in revenge for rival family the Harrisons desecrating Conroy’s father’s grave - and were jailed for 11-and-a-half years and 10-and-a-half years respectively.

Glover was branded a supergrass after a court heard he had written a prison cell confession to the attack, saying he had been enlisted as “back-up” for Conroy.

But when giving evidence, he claimed he was psychotic at the time he wrote the note in Birmingham’s Winson Green jail.

Despite this, it was ruled Glover’s statements could be used as evidence against Conroy, who was subsequently convicted.

But Glover claims he never signed the note and had not signed any statements with regards to the trial and at no time been an informant to the police.

Both men maintain their innocence to this day.

Glover now insists he has turned his back on his life of crime and just wants to be a good dad to his four children, including his 12-year-old son.

He is battling a mental illness and is speaking out to warn youngsters not to follow his path into the underworld.

He said: “I saw that torture happen and I can’t live with it now. I have flashbacks every time I close my eyes.

“I wasted my childhood and spent 30 years of my life being moved from prison to prison. I was a double Category A prisoner and was locked up with some of the most evil people in the country.

“I was friends with Charles Bronson - he is a real gentleman and nothing like what he is portrayed as.

“Now I want to live for my kids and get healthy again. I do not want my son to end up with the life I had. My advice to any youngsters who are thinking of a life of crime is: don’t do it. Think of your mother, your sister and your kids. Get a good education and a job.

“I hope this draws a line under this sad time of my life.”
