My home is a no-go zone after being riddled with mould – it’s so bad I’m sleeping on the sofa

A WOMAN with severe asthma has been warned to stay out of her toilet and kitchen — because they’re riddled with mould.

Jodie Murphy, 23, told how she’s having to sleep on a sofa at her mum’s because of the health risks posed by dampness in her own home.

The problem emerged within weeks of her moving into the two-bedroom flat in Nitshill, Glasgow, last December.

She said: “The housing association told me to stay out of the affected areas.

"But am I expected to go without eating or peeing?”

Jodie told The Scottish Sun: “When I moved in there wasn’t any mould.

“But a few weeks ago I started to notice water on top of the cistern and a black line between the wall and the ceiling.”

Unemployed Jodie contacted the pad’s landlords, Rosehill Housing Association, and sent them photos of the fungal growth.

They sent out workers who removed part of the ceiling in the house.

But Jodie was stunned when she was told she would be unable to use the bathroom or kitchen until the repairs were complete.

She said: “I’ve had asthma for around six years. I got a bad attack when we went to stay in a caravan that had mould.

“So my mum didn’t want to take any chances. I’ve been sleeping on her couch for three weeks.

“It’s not ideal. I just want to get back to my house.”

Worried mum Denise, 43, said: “The way Jodie’s been treated is shocking.

"She has to use two different inhalers for her asthma.

“The mould in her flat is disgusting and dangerous.”

Rosehill Housing Association said: “We removed the bathroom ceiling to allow drying out.

"We are working with the tenant during this period.”
