SOCIAL MEDIA DEATH SCARE

Facebook bug is telling users their friends have died when visiting their profile page

A Facebook bug is telling people their friends, loved ones and even they themselves have died.

When users are clicking on some profile pages a message pops up at the top to suggest "remembering" them.

The message started appearing for some users on Friday, with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's page is also affected.

It says: "We hope people who love [the user's name] will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life."

Mike Isaac tweeted: "Facebook literally thinks a lot of people I know are straight up f****** dead.

"They are not, in fact, dead."

Others also took to Twitter to confirm they were very much alive still despite Facebook's message.

One user, simply called Amy, seemed to think it was an explanation for the US presidential election result.

She tweeted: "Oh finally an explanation, I've died and gone to hell."

Facebook told Politico it was "aware of the bug".

People can use Facebook as a way of letting others know someone had died through memorialised accounts, but these cannot be logged into.
