Chelsea Clinton being groomed to run for Congress it is claimed – just days after her mum Hillary lost the race for the White House
In her concession speech after losing out to President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton was adamant that the fight was far from over
THE Clinton political dynasty could still continue, despite the latest blows, as it is rumoured Chelsea Clinton is being groomed to run for Congress.
In her concession speech after losing out to President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton was adamant that the fight was far from over.
Perhaps she was hinting she is not quite done with politics, as she still has that illusive glass ceiling to shatter, or perhaps she was suggesting her daughter is being prepped to take steps in US politics.
Sources have told the New York Post that Chelsea is being lined up to take the New York seat currently held by Nita Lowey.
She could run for the seat after Lowey, a 79-year-old politician with nearly 30 years in office, retires.
The 36-year-old is no stranger to life in politics, as the only child of former US President Bill Clinton and former US Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary.
She was a special correspondent for NBC News from 2011 to 2014 and now works with the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.
The district she could be in the running for includes parts of Rockland and Westchester counties, and Chappaqua - the Clinton family home base.
In August Bill and Hillary bought a house near their home, which is intended for Chelsea and her family.
If she made this her legal home she would be eligible to run for the seat when it becomes vacant.
"In the past few years, she has taken a very visible role in the Clinton Foundation and on the campaign trail.
"While politics isn’t the life Hillary wanted for Chelsea, she chose to go on the campaign trail for her mother and has turned out to be very poised, articulate and comfortable with the visibility."
Following a bitter and intense campaign, Trump beat Hillary in a shock win.
In the hours after he won many people wondered how he had done it, and what he would go on to do as President.
Hillary took to the stage later that day to deliver her emotionally charged concession speech to a room full of disappointed supporters.
