DRAMATIC footage shows a fearless Ukrainian soldier battling Russian troops in an intense trench battle.

The Call of Duty style video was shot from the soldier’s helmet in the battle for the town Bakhmut, which Vladimir Putin’s forces are desperately trying to seize.

The intense fighting around Bakhmut has been the longest and bloodiest in the year-long Ukraine war.

The footage begins by showing the soldier opening fire on unseen Russian soldiers from a position of partial cover.

A second Ukrainian soldier can be seen tossing a grenade in front of him, which then explodes.

The Ukrainian soldiers then begin attacking a dugout, before the footage cuts to Ukrainian soldiers taking fire in a trench.

There is an explosion and one of them is apparently injured but this does not stop him from jumping out of the trench as the footage ends.

The images were obtained from the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Tuesday.

“This is an assault close to enemy positions,” said the unit.

“The perimeter is under fire from both sides. The risky task is performed by the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade."

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned Bakhmut may fall into Russian hands in the coming days following months of intense fighting.

"What we see is that Russia is throwing more troops, more forces and what Russia lacks in quality they try to make up in quantity," he said at an EU defence ministers meeting in Stockholm.

"We cannot rule out that Bakhmut may eventually fall in the coming days. This does not necessarily reflect any turning point of the war”.

Relentless Russian forces have besieged Bakhmut for around seven months as part of Putin's grinding eastern offensive.

Most buildings have been reduced to rubble and thousands of soldiers have died in street battles.

Countless thousands have died on both sides.

Putin’s Wagner Group mercenaries have become cannon fodder after launching assaults on foot against the defenders’ guns.

Russian prisoners claimed Wagner commanders had shot their own men if anyone dared to take one step back.

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin has staked his name on taking Bakhmut.

Almost every building is reduced to rubble, yet amazingly some 5,000 civilians, including 37 children, are still there.

Elsewhere, gut-wrenching images reveal the charred ruins of the decimated city of Maryinka in Donetsk where 10,000 people once lived.

The deserted city is now filled with mountains of rubble after being pounded by Russian forces.
