Suicide hotline receives record number of calls during Donald Trump’s dramatic election victory

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline receives nearly three times its average numbers of calls during election night

A SUICIDE prevention hotline received a record-breaking number of calls during Donald Trump’s explosive election victory.

American’s National Suicide Prevention Lifeline received 660 calls between 1am and 2am on Wednesday which is nearly three times its average.

The  reports that the hotline often has a surge in calls around major events such as natural disasters.

Speaking with the news outlet, the hotline’s director John Draper called the avalanche of calls “unprecedented”.

He said: “It clearly is and was an indication that there’s a lot of anxiety and fear around the election.”

Draper admitted that the organisation did not record whether the distressed callers were Democrat or Republican voters.

The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention hotline for LGBT youngsters, also confirmed a record numbers of calls on election night.

Republican Trump's election win over Democrat Hillary Clinton on Wednesday morning shocked the world.

Polls had suggested that the billionaire was three to five percentage points behind Clinton before the election.

Meanwhile, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has branded college kids who have been devastated by Trump’s victory “spoiled crybabies.”

A staunch supporter of the billionaire, he spoke out on US TV show Fox and Friends on Thursday and didn’t mince his words.

In line to become Trump's attorney general, he said: "The reality is they're a bunch of spoiled crybabies."

Giuliani was commenting on reports that colleges have been bringing in therapy dogs and are holding "cry-ins" to help students overcome their election grief.
