Key Jeremy Corbyn ally makes bizarre claim Labour’s leftie leader could emulate Donald Trump’s stunning White House victory
Emily Thornberry says 'there are some similarities' between her no-hoper boss and the real estate mogul
LABOUR’S Shadow Foreign Secretary claimed Jeremy Corbyn could repeat Donald Trump’s shock election victory yesterday.
Emily Thornberry said there were several “similarities” between Donald Trump and Jeremy Corbyn – despite their opposing political views.
Ms Thornberry compared the “hundreds and thousands” of people that had joined the Labour party to Mr Trump’s popularity among US voters.
Asked if it was possible Jeremy Corbyn could pull off a similar surprise, she said: “I think it’s right — there are hundreds and thousands energised by Jeremy Corbyn being the leader of the Labour party so there are some similarities.”

And she even spared some words of praise for Mr Trump, adding: “To give him his credit, I never thought I’d say this, but Donald Trump was talking about the importance of investing in jobs and infrastructure and in the economies across the country, not just the main cities, and that’s right.”
Mr Corbyn has so far refused to congratulate the US president elect on his historic victory but has blasted his “divisive” language.
He said: “After this latest global wake up call, the need for a real alternative to a failed economic and political system could not be clearer.”
