Prince Charles clambers aboard HMS Middleton…as he sees the funny side of the ship’s awkward name on Royal trip to Bahrain
THE Prince of Wales had a ship-shape chuckle or two after clocking he was climbing the gangplank of ship named after Kate's maiden name.
Charles was visiting the Royal Navy’s naval base, HMS Jufair. in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain.
The prince was there to open a welfare block for Brit and Commonwealth sailors which has a dining facility for 240 people, two classrooms, a multi-faith prayer room and gym.
Commander Neil Benstead, 42, the project manager for the facility, said: "The welfare building is part of the gift from the King of Bahrain to the UK to celebrate 200 years of relations between the UK and Bahrain."
Prince Charles then visited a minesweeper, HMS Middleton, and was shown a Sea Fox autonomous underwater vehicle, which sends live pictures and video back and is capable of dealing with a mine.
