Driver caught using his mobile told cops: ‘I was consoling American friend about Donald Trump’
Cheeky motorist blames Donald Trump's election victory after being caught using phone at wheel in Cannock, Staffs
A MOTORIST caught using his mobile on the motorway today came up with a very creative excuse.
Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) pulled the driver over on the M6 in Cannock, Staffs, after spotting him using a phone at the wheel this morning.
But when he was stopped, the quick-thinking driver told officers he was only on the phone because he was consoling a friend about the US election result.
The cheeky driver claimed he wouldn’t normally use a phone at the wheel – but his American pal was extremely upset at Donald Trump’s shock victory.
CMPG tweeted: "Driver using his mobile phone on the M6 at Cannock stated he was consoling his American friend who was upset with the result. #blametrump".
It is not known what punishment the motorist received for the offence.
But driving while using a mobile phone carries a punishment of three penalty points and a £100 fine.
