Prince Harry’s attack on the media for ‘crossing the line’ with new girlfriend Meghan Markle was ill-judged
The royal's worries about the level of interest in his new love are understandable - but he needs to get real
PRINCE Harry is a decent bloke whose heart is in the right place.
His new girlfriend Meghan Markle is a breath of fresh air who we’d love to see become a regular fixture of life at Kensington Palace.
We understand Harry’s worries about the level of interest in them. But he needs to get real. He is an heir to the throne, living a privileged life at public expense. He didn’t choose it, but it is what it is: media attention is unavoidable.
When a Prince falls for a glamorous American TV star, interest is bound to explode worldwide.
Harry’s attack on the media for “crossing the line” was ill-judged.
The UK Press isn’t to blame for his most serious allegations. The Sun abides by strict rules against intrusion and harassment — and we agree Meghan shouldn’t be hounded.
As for his complaints about the web, it’s an unpoliced, wild west of comment.
The “sexism and racism of social media trolls” is one of the scourges of modern society.
The only answer is not to read it.
Poor President
BARACK Obama may end up being favourably compared with his replacement. But much of his Presidency has been a failure.
If looking cool and sounding statesmanlike were the sole standards by which presidents are judged he’d be unbeatable.
And, to his credit, Obama did help fix the US economy after 2008. He had Bin Laden assassinated. His Obamacare extended health provision to millions.
Elsewhere his weakness brought carnage. He toppled Libya’s Colonel Gaddafi, then left terrorists to fill the void.
He stoked the fires in Syria, only for IS to take root, then signed a ceasefire only to watch helplessly as Russia ignored it.
At home he has shed tears over endless gun massacres but done nothing.
And under the country’s first black President, racial tensions got worse.
America is more divided than it has been in decades.
We can but hope the next president is an improvement. The signs aren’t great.
Hogan how?
OPERATION Midland destroyed lives and the Met Police’s credibility.
Yet the man ultimately responsible will retire on a fat pension with barely a hint of embarrassment.
This investigation reflects appallingly on Bernard Hogan-Howe’s force, even down to the report being conveniently buried under a barrage of US election news.
Five cops will now be probed for treating a fantasist’s claims as proof of a VIP sex abuse ring. But not Hogan-Howe.
The report says his men let him down. He claims he couldn’t keep tabs on every Met investigation.
But this one had MPs’ backing and involved very prominent “suspects”.
How can he not have been on top of it?
