Canadian immigration website crashes as Americans attempt to flee the US as Trump wins race for Presidency

A CANADIAN immigration website has crashed as worried Democrats considered fleeing the US hours before Donald Trump won the race for the White House.

The site –www.cic.gc.ca – shut down as the Republican candidate romped clear of Hillary Clinton in swing states Florida and Ohio.

Democratic voters appeared desperate to move to Canada as the prospect of Trump winning the race for the White House became ever closer

The ‘Server Error – 500 Internal server error’ suggests that the website has buckled under the pressure of increased traffic.

Social media users took to Twitter to share their amazement at the web crash.

Journalist User Meena Thiruvengadam tweeted: "OMG, Canada's immigration site has crashed."

Google has also reported a colossal upsurge in search terms such as "emigrate" and "how to emigrate to Canada".

Another widely searched for phrase was "end of the world".
