Who is President of the United States and what happens after election results day?

Even though Donald Trump is declared the winner tonight, Barack Obama will still be president until January 20

DONALD Trump has become the 45th President of the USA after an astonishing night of shocks.

The Republican candidate has pulled off a shocking victory against Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the fight to reach the White House.

While Trump may be the winner tonight, Barack Obama will still be president until January 20, which is when the new president is inaugurated.

Since Trump has been declared winner, he will be given access to the Presidential Transition Headquarters in Washington, DC, to start work.

President Obama has already issued “facilitation of a presidential transition" in order for things to run smoothly.

He also established a White House Transition Coordinating Council that will help and support the transition as his administration leaves and the new one enters.

When does the new President begin work?

President-elect Trump won't be sworn in until noon on January 20 in Washington.

He will take the oath of office pledging loyalty to the US Constitution and in so doing assume the honours and responsibilities of the presidency.

In the days and weeks after the election the will pick his or her cabinet and begin crafting a more thorough policy agenda.

After a series of fancy inaugural balls, the the winner will at last settle into their new home and their new job as the 45th President of the United States.

Meanwhile, the loser will be expected to pack up their belongings and work on reshaping their legacy.

Trump has promised to start deporting “more than two million criminal illegal immigrants” straight away.

He has also threatened to cancel visas to any country that refuses to accept its people being returned.

So if Britain did not allow the illegal aliens back into the country, none of our citizens would be given US visas.
