‘Gang rape’ jockey Brendan Powell back in saddle after sexual assault probe

Jockey arrested over ‘gang-rape of 18-year-old' rides to third place as lawyer says trio 'categorically deny' any wrongdoing

A JOCKEY embroiled in a gang rape probe was back at work yesterday, insisting he was innocent “of any criminal wrongdoing”.

Brendan Powell, 21, rode 33-1 shot Gannicus to third place in the BetVictor Novices’ Hurdle Race at Kempton Park.

The Sun told yesterday that Powell and fellow jockeys Richard Condon and Sean Mooney, both 20, are accused of raping an 18-year-old woman.

Thursday’s alleged assault is said to have happened at Powell’s home in Chiseldon, Wilts.

Powell and Condon’s lawyer said they “categorically deny” any wrongdoing.

Mooney was not available to comment.

The trio have been bailed to return to Wiltshire Police in late December.
