Man, 19, arrested after teenager dies in hospital following ‘stabbing’ near Scottish Parliament
A MAN has been arrested after a teenager died following being found injured near the Scottish Parliament building.
Police confirmed they had been called to Viewcraig Street in Dumbiedykes area of the city around 3.45am this morning.
An 18-year-old was reported to have been injured and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
But he died a short time later.
Police cordoned off an area close to two student halls just off Holyrood Road in the city centre.
Cops have since confirmed that a 19-year-old man has been arrested over the teen's death.
Detective Inspector George Calder, of the major investigation team, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the young man's family and friends at this very difficult time.
"We have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation and extensive enquiries are ongoing at this time. I would ask anyone who was in Viewcraig Street and the surrounding area, in the early hours of Sunday morning, and who may have seen or heard a disturbance, or witnessed anything suspicious, to please get in touch with us.
"I am also keen to speak to anyone with any CCTV, dashcam or any other footage that they think would assist the enquiry. We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers”
Earlier, one local said: “The medics did their best but tragically he’s not made it.”

A neighbour said: “We heard a commotion outside about 3.45 but that’s not unusual with all the pubs and clubs nearby.
“But then I looked outside and saw paramedics giving the lad CPR.
“It’s shocking that he has died at such a young age.”
Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death.
The residential spot is just a seven minute walk from the Scottish Parliament building.
The street is also close by other capital landmarks, including the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Waverley station, the National Museum of Scotland, Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat.
