‘Mutton headed’ CPS branded for listening to bonkers prof who wants Brexiteers locked up
Argument includes the high-profile claim the EU was costing the UK £350million a week which was plastered on the side of the Vote Leave bus
THE CPS were last night branded "mutton headed" for considering a professor’s plan to lock up Brexiteers for “misleading” the public in the run-up to the EU referendum.
Academic Bob Watt of the University of Buckingham says claims made by the Leave campaigns during the referendum broke election law as they were “fraudulent devices or contrivances”.
Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders is reviewing the allegations made against Vote Leave and Leave.EU groups.
Tory MP Jacob Rees Mogg raged: “It is a mutton headed decision which brings the impartiality of the CPS and Ms Saunders into question.”
In the unlikely event of success it could see charges brought against bosses — and a year’s imprisonment if found guilty.
Prof Watt says says the high-profile claim the EU was costing the UK £350million a week, which was plastered on the side of the Vote Leave bus as it drove Boris Johnson around the country, was knowingly deceiving.
