Popa, 44, was deported on October 5 last year after a jail term for sex assaults and indecency.

He had targeted schoolgirls on buses and was branded a potential “danger” by a judge.

Popa, previously jailed in his homeland for attempted rape, flew back here six weeks ago.

He was noticed only when nicked for assaulting a housemate in Enfield, North London.

He has been jailed for six weeks by Highbury magistrates and will be deported again after serving his sentence.

But a source said: “How long before he’s back again? It’s nothing less than scandalous.”

Ex-Met chief John O’ Connor said: “This case highlights our border security problems.”

It comes after the 2014 murder of Alice Gross, 14, in Hanwell, West London, by convicted Latvian killer Arnis Zalkalns, who had slipped into the UK.
