Pictures of Kelly, 49, posing with a machine gun in front of an army tank inside the city surfaced on social media on Friday night.

He has now been named as one of five suicide bombers who detonated trucks as the Iraqi army moved in to the ISIS stronghold.

Kelly, whose fighter name was Abu Usama al-Irlandi, reportedly made his attack against Iraqi regime troops and Shiite militias in Tal Afar, near Mosul.

The fanatic converted to Islam after being imprisoned for eight months in Saudi Arabia for selling homemade booze.

Dublin-born Kelly, who has three children, is a friend of hate preacher Anjem Choudary.

He was a former altar boy and trained to be a nurse after leaving school.

Kelly appeared on Ireland's Late Late Show with the now banged-up fanatic in 2003, where he refused to condemn 9/11.

The convert made members of the audience gasp when he suggested victims of the horrific terror attack's "time was up".

He added: "I believe Allah gives life and takes life.

"They [the 3,000 people who died] would have died wherever they were in the world, it is just a condition of their death."

He also came under fire for glorifying London's 7/7 Tube attacks, in which 52 people were killed.

Speaking on the Late Late Show, Kelly admitted he sold his house as interest is forbidden in Islam.

He also gave up drinking and said he believes the Qu'ran was written to correct mistakes about God and Allah.

Taliban Terry was born Terence Kelly in the Liberties, Dublin but moved to Pakistan's Swat Valley in 2009 after converting.

Speaking at the time, he said: "I am from Dublin but I am no longer a Westerner. I am Muslim.
"I am living 60 miles from the Afghan border. I may travel there and if I came across a Dubliner in British Army uniform I would not have any problem in fighting, bombing or killing him as I would anyone who is harming Muslims.

"The people here in Pakistan and Afghanistan are now my people. If my own brother was harming Muslims I would have no hesitation in killing him."

His suicide attack came as the Iraqi army - aided by coalition forces - moved to retake the city.

Government forces are now thought to have regained control of 90 per cent of Mosul, which has been under ISIS control for two years.

The UN has expressed concern for the 1.5 million civilians living in the city due to increased evidence of ISIS atrocities.

On Friday the first vehicle carrying hundreds of civilians fleeing the conflict arrived at a camp outside the city.
