Man saved by passers-by after being ‘held down over bench and raped’ by two men in Rochdale
The shocking sex attack only ended when passers-by shouted at the suspects
A MAN was held down over a park bench by a suspect while another attacker raped him, police say.
The "ruthless" sex attack happened when the 36-year-old was sitting in Broadfield Park, Rochdale.
Two men started talking to the victim and then pounced on Tuesday at 6.30pm.
One assailant restrained him while the second person carried out a sickening rape, according to cops.
The horror assault only ended when passers-by began shouting at them.
The suspects ran off in the direction of Broadfield Hotel.
Cops have launched a probe as specially trained officers support the victim.
Detective Inspector Damian Simpson, of GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “This was a ruthless attack which terrified the victim and caused him lasting emotional distress.
“I am appealing to the two witnesses who disrupted the offenders to please get in touch.
“Your actions are likely to have saved the victim from suffering even further at the hands of his attacker and your co-operation could be of significant value to our investigation.
“In addition, I would ask that anyone else who was in the park at that time, or anyone who recognises the description of either offender, to please contact us.”
