THIS is the shocking moment a giant pet python swallows four chickens and a rat in the space of two minutes.

The 12ft-long snake was curled up at home in its owner's front yard in Thailand when he brought out supper.

The man drops the chicken into the reptile’s mouth and the animal wraps its jaws around it so that only the feet and a tuft of feathers can be seen sticking back out.

But after devouring one chicken it is apparently still hungry.

It gobbles up another and another of the creatures, until it has polished off four in around two minutes.

The hungry reptile then wolfs down a large rat for dessert after a second man drops it into her cavernous mouth for good measure.

Having finally fulfilled her cravings, the colossal beast curls up to allow the chickens to make their way down inside her enormous body.

The bizarre clip went viral after being shared online, with dozens of people amazed the snake could eat so much.

Lee Wittaya said: ''Why does the owner have to stuff so much food into its mouth like that?''

Ong Manuson added: ''Today eat chicken, the next day – people.''

And Punyappa wrote: ''She's one hungry snake.''

Pythons are one of the largest species of snake in the world, and can grow to over 30ft in length.

Native to Asia, Africa and Australia, there are 41 different kinds of python around the world.

They are not venomous, instead killing their prey by constriction.

They can open their mouths incredibly wide using the special design of their jaws, enabling them to swallow massive prey.
