He was said to have been on duty when called to a property in Hale Village in Cheshire — an area popular with Premier League footballers.

But he pleaded not guilty to an allegation that he had sex with the homeowner during the emergency call-out on December 28, 2021.

Masterson was charged last month following an investigation by watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said: “He is accused of abusing his position for a sexual purpose.”

Masterson first appeared in court before Warrington magistrates last month, when his case was referred to Chester crown court.

Yesterday, he entered his not guilty plea during a ten-minute appearance at Manchester crown court.

Masterson was granted bail and is scheduled to face a trial in January next year.

He resigned from the Cheshire force in June but will still face disciplinary procedures on conclusion of the criminal case.
