Man appears in court charged with murdering grandmother Michelle Hanson, 47, after she’s found stabbed to death at home
A MAN has appeared in court charged with murdering a gran found stabbed to death at home.
Police discovered the body of Michelle Hanson, 47, inside a home in Sunderland on December 3.
She died multiple stab or slash-like wounds, Northumbria Police said.
Alexander Carr was arrested 275 miles away in Islington, North London.
He appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court today charged with murder.
The 33-year-old is also charged with possessing a bladed article, namely a hunting knife.

Carr spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.
He was remanded in custody to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on December 23.
It comes after Michelle's family paid tribute to the grandmother.
Her daughter Shannon Brown, 29, said: “It’s heartbreaking for us as a family to know we will never see her again.
“My mum was a caring, kind and loving person. She would never hurt anyone, even if someone did something to hurt her, she would forgive them because she always saw the good in people.
“Please, if you have any information which can help the police with their investigation, don’t hesitate to get in touch with them.”
