Chilling images show creepy abandoned US theme park which suffered £25m damage during Hurricane Katrina

For 10 years nature has been reclaiming the former attraction

THESE intense images show the haunting remains of a theme park that was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

When the 2005 ripped through Louisiana, the Six Flags theme park in New Orleans suffered damage totalling $32million (£25million) and was forced to shut its doors.

The series of haunting pictures show rotting roller coasters, merry go-rounds falling to pieces, rusting dodgem cars and defaced lockers that would once have held the 140-acre empty park’s thrill-seeking visitors’ belongings as they enjoyed the Looney Toons and DC Comic attractions.

One macabre image shows a trampled teddy bear which might have once been a beloved prize or souvenir when the last ride stopped more than a decade ago.

Mother nature has reclaimed vast swathes of the site, reminding viewers of the abandoned theme park at Pripyat, a ghost town in northern Ukraine abandoned following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.

The images were taken by American urban explorer and photographer Jeff Hagerman, 35.
