THOUSANDS of thirsty Australian revellers flocked to the Derby Day races at Spring Carnival for a boozy day of fun, fashion and frivolity.
Sunny skies opened up over the tracks as four Group 1 races took place in the Saturday event - regarded as Australia's leading day of racing.
90,000 punters turned out to the occasion as summer approaches Down Under, and many were left worse for wear after a full day of betting and boozing.
As jockeys battled it out to secure the final spot in the Melbourne Cup many keen party-goers could barely stand to watch the entertainment.
Top jockey Glen Schofield took home the days $5 million prize with his horse Prized Icon.
Hundreds of staff were on hand to maintain order at the enormous event, and some more difficult punters were even cuffed by police.
Derby Day follows the tradition of English racetrack Royal Ascot, where male spectators must wear top hats and tails as well as black and white attire.
Women are required to show off eye-catching dresses with ornate frills or head pieces.
But as the drink flowed, grace and elegance was slowly lost, with excited revellers collapsing on the freshly cut lawns.
At the day's climax, one man was videoed launching himself into a wheelie bin wearing just red speedos and socks. The punter was later wheeled away the entertaining punter.
Celebrities also turned out for the event. Model Jennifer Hawkins and well and tennis star Lleyton Hewitt and TV host Rebecca Judd all made an appearance at the races.
