AN Italian scratchcard holder has scooped £147million in a record lottery jackpot.

It was the second-biggest SuperEnalotto total ever won, only beaten when a syndicate of 70 players won £160million (€177.7 million) in October 2010.

Today's lucky winner from Vibo Valentia in Sicily chose the numbers 3, 12, 23, 71, 76, 83, with 56 as the "jolly number" and 35 the "superstar number".

There had been 200 rollovers before his stunning win.

The owner of the newsagent in Catania where the winning ticket was bought said: "At first, when journalists phoned me to tell me about the win, I thought it was a joke.

"Slowly I realized that it was all true.

"There's been no peep from the winner, no phonecalls or written messages.

"We hope, however, that he'll remember us and the huge fortune we brought him."

But the identity of the winner has not yet been announced.

The biggest ever lottery payout for a single ticket was awarded to 84-year-old Gloria Mackenzie from Florida in 2013.

She won a record £480 million ($590.5 million) in the Powerball jackpot.
