Hilarious moment bungling burglar ducks and flees when he realises he’s on CCTV

A BMX bike was stolen from the garden of the same home before it was found the next afternoon abandoned nearby

THIS is the hilarious moment a man apparently about to break in to a house notices he is on CCTV and ducks out of shot in panic.

The bungling burglar was caught on camera in Basildon last Friday.

Footage shows the man approaching the front door and try the door handle before he spies the camera and flees.

This happened at about 3.55am on October 22.

A BMX bike was stolen from the garden of the same property but found abandoned nearby later that day.

The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, sent the video to the police and included a list of people she thought might be responsible.

: "I tend not to go out after 5pm because I don't feel safe.

"I have four children and if I don't feel safe you can only imagine how my eight-year-old feels. We can't sleep."

She claims a pair of trainers were stolen from her home in April of this year.

Basildon has been hit with a wave of burglaries, as police made 51 arrests for the offence since the start of September.

In June a pair of hapless crooks were caught red-handed on CCTV during a raid as they stole a camera.

The bearded pair thought they had got away with the crime when they spotted the small mobile camera and swiped it.

And in October a burglar tried to cover his tracks by cleaning a kitchen counter with bleach – but was caught on camera as he bent over to reach for the bottle.

The bungling crook, who was wearing a dark cap and gloves, was captured on a secret security camera using a bottle of Dettol surface cleaner to destroy evidence of the break-in.
