BBC boss admits broadcaster has ‘a liberal bias’ but has plans to tackle issue
BBC chairman Richard Sharp has conceded the broadcaster has a liberal bias — but insists it is fighting against it.
The former Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan banker also said the corporation had been too London-centred.
That, he said, meant Brexit had come as a big surprise to the organisation, adding: “The BBC didn’t understand the ‘mind’ of the country.”
Mr Sharp, who donates his £160,000 salary to charity, agreed “the BBC does have a liberal bias” but said he had a ten point plan to tackle it.
He also agreed that ex-Newsnight presenter Emily Maitlis’s monologue on Dominic Cummings’ trip to Barnard Castle in lockdown was wrong.
He told the Sunday Times: “We’re not a campaigning institution.
