Horrifying moment GIANT RATS spotted in bin at Glasgow flats as locals say they’re being invaded by colony of vermin

HORRIFYING footage shows the moment giant rats were discovered in a bin outside Glasgow flats.

John Rough was left stunned when he opened the lid of his wheelie bin in Scotstoun to the awful sight.

The 40-year-old says dozens of rodents terrify locals by roaming about gardens and open spaces at all times of the day.

And he says he has had no help in clearing them out — because council chiefs and Network Rail both refuse to take responsibility for an old train track nearby where the long-tailed creatures have their nests.

The dad-of-two recently told the Scottish Sun: "These little nasties make a hole into them and go in and out as they please.

"I asked six months ago for my bins to be changed but so far nothing has happened.

"Rats carry diseases so it’s not safe to have them walking around the garden like this."

He added: “Before Covid, we would sometimes see one or two rats at night.

“But during lockdown, the situation exploded and now there are too many of them.

“They walk around gardens every hour of the day like they own the place. I tell people we’re living in rat town.”

John bought traps, checked bins regularly and contacted the authorities for assistance — to no avail.

He said: “The rats get in by climbing over the fence separating my garden from a cycle path that used to be an old railway."

A Glasgow City Council spokesperson said: "Our pest control team has been working in various backcourts there.

“Unfortunately, we have found a member of the public is putting out food for wildlife, which is encouraging the rats.

“We will make further checks on the bins and engage with residents where necessary.”
